Small Business Advice: Self Employed? How to Become A Wealth Magnet
By: Allison Babb

After studying successful entrepreneurs, what was amazing to me was that I had never heard of these wealthy entrepreneurs before I set out to find and study them. They are not Donald Trump or Bill Gates, yet they were quietly earning millions. You've probably never even heard of them either . It was then that I realized that I was not prohibited from attaining wealth and that my own self-limiting beliefs were what prohibited me. As I let go of those beliefs and took on new ones, doors began to open up. How is that possible?

Even if you cannot fathom the thought of earning a million dollars, and even if wealth for you is just $50,000, there are ways to attract and achieve it. When I started to see what was possible for me, suddenly my job felt more like a starting point, a launching pad, and the financial fuel for my entrepreneurial goals.

As you begin this brand new year, I would invite you to think about the following strategies for becoming a wealth magnet:

Shed your past: If you grew up poor like I did, many of your beliefs may be linked to that experience. You may be embracing a scarcity vs abundance mindset and that mindset may be holding you back from seeing and acting up on opportunity that's right under your nose. Similarly if you grew up in a family who saw wealth as bad and wealthy people as bad, you're likely to repel success and undermine your own opportunities to succeed. I've learned that success is 90% mindset.

Get past security: People often stay stuck where they are because they imprisoned by fear of loss. Loss of money, loss of security, loss of power, loss of status, etc. Absence of these fears releases your ability to attract wealth. Why? Because when you believe in your own ability to make money (outside of a job), you tend to see and grasp opportunities that do precisely that for you. An author once said that the most secure place you can find is a prison cell. I quickly learned that freedom and security are opposites. If I desired freedom, at some point, I needed to let go of security. And for me that was letting go of job security.

Abandon the victim mode: There was a time when I could easily come up with 20 reasons why I could not achieve my dreams in life or why I could not attain financial freedom. I was divorced, I had 2 young kids, etc. Then I chose to take responsibility. I chose to not blame others, not blame circumstances, and not offer up excuses. As a single parent, I rolled up my sleeves and made the decision to take the actions necessary for achieving my dreams. I realized it was a choice, and that the choice was mine to make, and that no-one else could make that choice for me.

Learn the system: Most people do not become entrepreneurs simply because they are unaware of how to make a business work. Ironically, in the corporate world, everyone starts out not knowing how to do a job. But you make the decision to learn what you need to learn in order to succeed at that job. And that's really all you do as an entrepreneur. You simply learn the business success recipe and apply it to your business. Sadly many entrepreneurs start businesses with only the hope that they succeed vs using a systematic approach to success. With a clear and dependable system, you intentionally create your own success and you no longer have to blindly hope that you will succeed.

With the many questions I receive at my web site, it's become clear that folks need more than just the answers to individual questions, but a clear system for successfully transitioning from employee to entrepreneur where they move from a successful employee to a successful business owner.
